HISTORY OF DRIVEN COMPANY, BROWNELL ELECTRO, CARLTON BATES

The company was Electro-Tech Equipment Company with a customer base for Industrial electronics as well as electric motor shops with locations in Atlanta, Charlotte, Cambridge, Orlando and New York. To the best of my understanding the lab was first created by Dana Rumbaugh in the 1960's with a company formed by Leo and Joe Brown out of New York.

Later came the name of Brownell-Electro with growths in locations and labs primarily in the southeast United States.  There were through the years consolidations and restructer as the companies took on names as Brownell, Brownell Instruments and Controls, and Brownell Motors and Insulation (Brownell M&I).  All with the same focus to the expanding customer base.  Around the 1970's they were aquired by a company call Avnet.  Later came the reorganization as they took on the name of Avnet Industrial as thier parent company began to play a larger role in operations of the company and by this time they had aquired 13 instrument labs. By the mid 1980's the labs were consolidated to three, Atlanta, Memphis and Louisville.

The sale of the motors and insulation division by the parent company to Essex may have prompted the sale of the instrument and controls division around 1995 to Carlton-Bates Company with it's headquarters in Little Rock, AR.  By this time the labs were reduced to one in Atlanta Ga as shipping and stocking requirements by the carriers and manufacturers excelled in performance.  Atlanta was also the location of the Standards Lab that performed necessary calibration on the production equipment for the lab.

By the year 2000 the economy had a firm grasp on even the best of corporations not to mention a very small value-added instrument lab that tried to stand alone as a profit center for a leading electronic distributor as Carlton-Bates Company.  From this economy arose an opportunity for the lab to stand alone and then became Driven Company.

Driven Company continues in the modification of panel meters as well as the calibration, certification and repair of electronic test instrumentation with various value-added opportunities in the electronic field.  With our long history of success we have quickly established ourselves as a leading provider
of custom panel meters and service of all of our
Client's needs.
